: NGAP Lecturer – Department of Adjectival Law
: University of Fort Hare

The University of Fort Hare, Faculty of Law seeks to fill an nGAP Lecturer position. This is a permanent post funded from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP). The nGAP involves the recruitment, support and retention of highly capable young scholars as new academics in the disciplines below.

The following generic criteria are applicable:

  • Interest in becoming an academic
  • Be 40 years or younger
  • Evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the University of Fort Hare for the full 6 years of the programme.
  • Participation in all components and activities of the nGAP programme for the duration of the contract; Completion of a postgraduate degree/s in the relevant field of specialization during the first three year of employment as an nGAP Lecturer.
  • At least 80% of the positions will be allocated to black and/ or women South African citizens.

Duties :

  • Teach various modules in Adjectival Law as well as Private Law, Public Law, and Mercantile Law
  • Research and publish in accredited/referred journals;
  • Participate in the community engagement initiatives/programmes of the School/University;
  • Participate in the development of new modules/academic programmes; and,
  • Perform any other administrative/academic tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Dean of Law or his proxy.
  • Supervise postgraduate students when required


  • The minimum qualification is an LLM degree
  • Some practical or professional experience will be an adv
  • antage since the position primarily relates to adjectival law;
  • Some experience in teaching law (and research) in the higher education sector as junior lecturer, graduate tutor/assistant, will be an added advantage;
