Job Description

An exciting opportunity exists for a suitably qualified Legal Counsel to provide provide sound, reliable and timely legal advice on various aspects of the business by handling complex multifunctional matters as well as providing a commercial legal service within the group and as well as to provide support to the General Counsel and Company Secretary

.Position Overview
Specific Role Responsibilities

• Building an understanding of legal issues, risks and obligations through advice, communications and training throughout the whole business;
• Assist in the supervision work of other legal staff, and provide coaching and mentoring as required;
• Develop and maintain a legal knowledge database;
• Act as advisor on all legal matters with a particular focus on contracts, commercial and property related matters;
• Draft, vet and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts across the entire Group;
• Take the lead on the implementation of privacy legislation;
• Legal administration and accurate record keeping
• Assist with litigation as and when required;
• Assist with company secretarial work as and when required.
• Adhoc aspects of office administration.

Qualifications and Experience

• An Bachelors degree in Law (LLB or equivalent)
• Admitted Attorney or Advocate
• Must have a minimum of 5 years’ post articles work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, dealing primarily with consumer litigation
• Highly computer literacy (MS Office Suite)
• Experience in High Court and Magistrates Court procedures;
• A sound knowledge of Privacy Laws and of the Consumer Protection Act
• Excellent knowledge and understanding of contracts, including technology related contracts, corporate law and property law;
• Experience in building strategic partnerships / alliance with key stakeholders within the company
