Our company is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Paralegal Consultant to join our dynamic team.

Purpose of the Job:

The role of the Paralegal Consultant is to provide telephonic legal advice through a high quality information support service to the clients contacting the National Support Centre. 

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • To provide all the services to which the caller is entitled in a professional and respectful manner and to standards agreed with the NSC Manager/Team Leader and Clinical Services Manager.
  • To monitor the level of satisfaction a caller has with the service received.
  • To provide clients with information on specific issues consistent with the caller’s level of understanding and in a manner that assists and facilitates the resolution of their problems.
  • The Paralegal Consultant is required to not only provide information on courses of action, but also to inform the client about the options available and to help establish the likely results of the different options.
  • In the event of a Labour Law query or any query relating to the relationship between a client company and its employee (the caller), the Paralegal Consultant will refer the client back to his/her HR Department in an attempt to resolve the matter internally and avoid a possible conflict of interest.
  • To provide accurate and updated information that has been carefully researched with the help of databases and information sources available within the office.
  • To accurately capture all information on the database pertinent to the legal management of the case and to maintain accurate records of all services provided.
  • To record case numbers and other references when information is given and to make clear and explanatory notes of all calls.
  • To promptly provide Account Managers with relevant data to enable non-confidential feedback to client organizations, using the process agreed with the NSC Manager/Team Leader and Clinical Services Manager.
  • To refer clients who require counselling to the NSC Clinicians and Case Consultant in the manner laid down by the National Support Centre procedures.
  • To adhere to the operational standards as set out by Operational Management.

Special Job Conditions:

The position of a Paralegal Consultant is a full time position in accordance with company needs.  The job holder will be based at ICAS head office.  This is a shift position based in the National Support Centre. The nature of the role will sometimes require working overtime. The Paralegal Consultant will be required to take on any other relevant work related duties as required by the NSC Manager/Team Leader.This job specification is not exhaustive and will be reviewed as the role develops.Please note for internal applications, the completed and signed Internal Application Form must accompany your CV to the hiring manager. The reason for this form is to indicate to the Hiring Manager, that you have made your current Manager aware of your application.Several pre-employment checks are pre-requisites prior to hiring staff who are not already employees of ICAS e.g. criminal checks, reference checks, past employment history checks, ID verification, qualification verification, residence and credit checks. For IT, Finance and Management positions credit checks are also required. In addition relevant work related tests, or psychometric tests may be in use besides interviews.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Paralegal
  • BCom Law
  • Diploma in Law
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years working experience in a legal or corporate environment.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of 2 years face to face working experience in a legal or corporate environment.


  • It would be beneficial if the candidate has working experience in the field of EAP (Employment Assistance Program) or working in a clinical / psychological setting.
  • MS Office Proficient.
