Good day. The rental property we have been renting for 3 years was sold. We were renting directly from the owner but the agent who sold the house gave us notice on the 17th of October 2019 advising that we have until 30 November 2019 to vacate as the new owners wishes to move in as soon as possible. We found a new rental property relatively quickly and advised the owner and agent as such and finished our move on the 3rd of November 2019. Prior to our move the owner threatened me with legal action stating that if I move before end November (she wanted one more month's rent apparently) I am breaching contract which we no longer had last contract signed was 2016 and we orally agreed on month to month because she wanted to sell the house. The agent however assured me that I was well within my legal right to move since they had given me notice. I waited the requisite 7 days to request my rental deposit back but now the landlord refuses to pay me again stating contract breach and damages. There was never any inspections done not when we moved in nor when we moved out. The new owners also moved in within the week that we moved out. What do I do?
