The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government has an exciting opportunity for a State Law Advisor to render professional functions and duties in a vibrant environment. The successful candidate must be willing to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and must also be customer and service delivery orientated. The post is stationed in Cape Town.
LLB-Degree with admission as an Advocate or Attorney;
LP 7: A minimum of 5 years' appropriate practical post qualification legal experience;
LP 8: A minimum of 9 years' appropriate practical post qualification legal experience
Proven experience of a role in a legal advisory capacity; Proven experience in research methods and computer literacy
Key Performance Areas
Attend consultations with Departmental officials and provide advice and guidance on both procedural and substantive legal issues; Negotiating, drafting and editing contracts; Provide legal advice and legal opinions to Ministers, Heads of Departments and other departments on procedural and substantive legal issues; Drafting of legal technical correspondence and replies.
Good working knowledge of legislation and case law relating to administrative law, procurement law, the law of contract and delict, labour law, interpretation of statutes and other areas of the law applicable to the public sector; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and at least one other official language predominantly used in the Western Cape; Well-developed legal research and legal writing skills; Innovative problem solving skills and analytic skills; Presentation skills.
LP 7: All-inclusive salary package of R 763 212 per annum; LP 8: All-inclusive salary package of R 899 016 per annum (OSD as prescribed).
Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
